Pieces of a Woman directed by Kornél Mundruczó (2020), is a film about a woman, her partner, and her family that all suffering grief from the loss of the woman’s child that died shortly after birth during a home birth. It’s a touching story of humanity, the fragility of relationships, and the strength of those that survive in whatever way they need to to keep going. The film had unexpected layers of character depth that was slowly revealed over time that really makes you feel compassion for them and then you remember everything that is happening, has happened, and you feel it more. The acting is key in a film like this and it was mostly there. The acting was over the top at times when it didn’t need. Which hurts the story telling in those spot. All of the film looked great. Overall, its a good film but you definitely have to be in the mood for it as it could be emotionally draining or cause you to not engage with the story. I probably won’t watch it again but it’s good to see at least once.
Watched on Netflix.
