The New Guy (2002): Brief Review

The New Guy directed by Ed Decter (2002), is one of those high school teen comedies from the 2000’s that absolutely rocked the youth during the time. It had the funny but dopey dork guy who becomes cool, it has a somewhat decent soundtrack, the unimportant cool guy who’s really just a jerk, the supportive friends/side-kicks, and the super hot but down to earth cool girl who likes the dorky guy for who he is. This film was just one of way too many of the time. I’m not sure if it’s something that can ever come back the way it was because they tended to cross the line way too many times but it was fine in that period of time. I’m not sure if the kids today will think of this as a comedy as it definitely has offensive comments and most of the time that was the joke. The joke was to be as offensive as possibly. For what it was at the time, it was great. Now, it doesn’t really hold up but it’s still a lot of fun to watch, if you don’t think too hard about it. Is it worth a watch? Not really. Feel free to give it a pass. If you do happen to watch it, remember to have fun and let your mind go. Maybe have a drink or a smoke or whatever you do to relax.

Watched on Starz.
