300 (2006): Brief Review

300, directed by Zack Snyder (2006), is a film about the ancient battle of Thermopylae. The story is an epic in itself but this film based on Frank Miller’s: 300, so it picks up that style for the film which adds to the epic feeling. The dark coloring with splashes of color lends an amazing feeling to the film but could have easily have been a negative and washed out the film. You could feel the story, the tension, between both sides. The human element was felt and so was the fantastical. The larger than life portion that makes this story as a whole feel so epic is done really well. It feels grand throughout the whole film. There is not a moment where I wasn’t glued to the screen waiting for every scene to pass. That’s a special moment. Not many films can do that. Especially with well known actors. They may not have been as mainstream then as they are now but they were well known for the most part. It can be hard to forget that an actor is an actor and not just the character when watching a film sometimes. I never thought about them being actors once while watching 300 which is great. I can just focus on the story and what’s put in front of me. In the end, I could watch this an endless amount of times and something about it will feel new and exciting every time. I more than recommend watching, if you haven’t already.
